Few have given more to Indian football than Sunil Chhetri. The ace footballer has donned the Number 9 jersey with pride for the last 19 years. Today, Chhetri shared an emotional video, announcing his retirement from Indian football.

The clip showed us a candid side of the champion, who has captained India to numerous victories and set new standards with his commitment, both on and off the field. He also remembered his first game for the country, describing it as the greatest moment of his career. From then, he went on to score 94 goals for India, and is currently the third highest goal scorer, active at the international level, behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. The video sent a tizzy in the footballing world, with Virat Kohli lauding his achievements too.

Thankfully, fans have one last chance to watch him wield his magic. Chhetri will play his last match for India on June 6, in the FIFA World Cup qualifier against Kuwait. The venue will be none other than Salt Lake Stadium, where he spent much of his early career. We hope to see the champ bow out on a high.
