Cristiano Ronaldo hasn't been having the best of times at Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr. But even at 39 years of age, he still has it in him to raise his game and play a crucial role in Portugal regaining the European Championship which they had won last in 2016, feels Luis Figo.

"Age, sometimes, doesn’t count. When you are a player who's used to scoring all the time, that quality can help you make a difference, whether you are 36 or 40," the Portuguese legend and former captain said in a select online media interaction facilitated by Sony Sports Network on Monday.

"For Portugal, Cristiano is very important because of his quality and experience. He's a reference for his teammates and I hope he can help Portugal like always to perform well in the Euro," Figo stated about his former teammate.

This year's Euro, to be held in Germany, begins on June 14. And for Figo, Portugal are one of the favourites. "They are a very good team with a good coach (Roberto Martinez). Between Portugal, England, France and Spain, they (Portugal) are my favourites."

Talking about Kylian Mbappe, who too will be one to watch out for in this Euro, Figo feels being consistent will enable the Frenchman to rise to the level of Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. "What he needs to do is just be consistent and maintain the level he has been up to. He has almost everything that one player would want to have.

"But sometimes, the decision to win individual awards depends on the moment, who you are competing with and what you want during the season. So, sometimes all aspects put together influence the decision of the people who vote. But in terms of quality, he's one of the best football has right now."
